The Northern White Rhino is at risk of extinction.

The world’s last male northern white rhino is severely ill. The rhino, whose name is Sudan, lives at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya. The illness was likely age-related, as Sudan is currently 45 years old. Only five rhino subspecies continue to exist, and the northern white rhino is edging towards extinction.

“At the advanced age of 45, his health has begun deteriorating, and his future is not looking bright. Recently, [a deep infection] was discovered,” Ol Pejeta said. “This has been treated, but worryingly, the infection is taking longer to recover. We are very concerned about him… we do not want him to suffer unnecessarily.”
