I was mindlessly scrolling, without much in mind, just looking for entertainment while I waited for the night to pass. Then I saw it. Frozen gummy bears.
Social media followers have watched the trend explode: freezing gummy bears overnight in Sprite. The result? Larger more flavourful gummies. I have to try it. Like right now.
This hyped-up recipe simply calls for two simple ingredients that you probably already have at home: gummy bears and Sprite.
How do you set it up? Good question. First, you dump the gummy bears into a glass bowl, pouring in the fizzy liquid. Then you wait. 1, 2, 3 ⌠24 hours for the concoction to absorb the liquid in the fridge?! Yep, one whole day.
After this, you may think you are done. But no. Now you must wait an additional three hours to allow the gummies to properly freeze, thus enhancing the slushie-like feel.
The gummies came out of my freezer looking slightly bigger than before, but not nearly as big as Iâd hoped, as they appeared larger online. But taste wise? They tasted amazing, like a slushie version of that flavor.
But there was a downside. While the gummies were soft on the outside, they were as hard as a diamond on the inside .
Social media has had some unique and crazy ideas before, but this was way out there. I wouldnât make it again. The flavor was there, but the texture was not. It felt like the gummy itself was a mango or an avocado, as the skin peeled away to reveal an unexpectedly hard core.
Overall, they were just satisfactory. While the taste was good, the texture was disappointing. So yes on the Sprite. And yes on the gummy bears. But I wouldnât recommend wasting your money on mixing the two.
