While scrolling through social media The Howl came across a new, local restaurant called Oak and Ember. After some initial confusion about the name, we unanimously agreed that we needed to try it. We eagerly headed down to Ontario.
The leader of the culinary team is an award-winning chef who brings both passion and skill in his attempt to perfect every bite, creating an unforgettable experience. The restaurant is perfect for family outings.
The name of the family-owned restaurant originated from the oakwood that they use to cook BBQ, while the ember represents a spark of the oakwood under the simmering food. These two works combine to create the name.
Oak and Ember is a lunch / dinner spot. It opens at 11 am and closes at 10 pm, with the exception of Friday, where doors close at midnight. The Howl made sure to come early so that we could try many of their goods.
From the outside, the building shone with its bright orange and white logo which was complemented with banners. The inside had a country old fashion theme. It was decorated with antique photos and luggages along the walls. However, the tables and chairs are modern and luxurious.
When we stepped inside, we were seated immediately. The waiters were spectacular, and all of our orders came out briskly. The tables were clean, and the service was amazing. We even got to talk to the head chef/owner about his restaurant. He told us about how it all started at Bubba Gump where he was working before he came together with his friends and decided to create their own restaurant.
The Howl sampled The Oak, Smoked Brisket, Rack Beef Rib, Garlic Parm Wings, Grilled Caesar Salad, and Mac and Cheese.
The Oak includes brisket and wagyu ground beef which burst with flavor. Moreover, the burger didn’t even need the sauce, as the flavor was amazing. The Japanese milk bun and new style American cheese fit this gourmet burger perfectly.
Oak and Ember cooked up a masterpiece with their Smoked Brisket. The meat was tender and juicy. And it had just the right amount of seasoning.
The Rack Beef Rib had an exceptional taste. However, it wasn’t as tender as we had expected, though it was still delicious.
The Garlic Parm wings looked appetizing, however, it tasted like biting into a salt block. If that is your jam, this might be the meal for you.
For all the healthy Day Creek students, the salad is calling your name. Although we aren’t big fans of greens, the Grilled Caesar Salad just might have changed our minds. It included bacon, romaine lettuce, parmesan cheese, and their house-made dressing. Definitely a 10/10.
The Ultimate Mac ‘n’ Cheese wasn’t just your typical Kraft-style mac. It was creamy and rich, just what you would expect at a backyard BBQ.
While the food was enjoyable, the drinks were amazing. The Nina Fresca was perfect with its strawberry puree and sweet lemonade. We would recommend this!
The Mango Cooler was just as good. It had hints of lemonade while bursting with mango flavor. Definitely a must try!
The prices were moderate, ranging from $7-$25.
The only concern the Howl noticed in reviews were the long waits which we didn’t experience ourselves. So, we suggest you arrive between lunch and dinner time so that it won’t be as packed.
Overall, Oak and Ember proved to be the ideal place for a casual, pleasant meal. And if you go, do not skip the drinks!
