Maybe you don’t know about the new Oreo flavor, and the Howl doesn’t blame you! It’s definitely something a little unique. Cut to the theme song.
When The Howl went to our local Target, we saw a hidden cookie gem just sitting on the shelves. The only difference from regular Oreo cookies was the single layer of “mint chip flavor” creme in between the cone pattern disks.
When Oreo released this flavor, many were excited. Their favorite ice cream flavor in a cookie? Yes! It appears as though the Mint Chip Oreo was meant to taste just like a bowl of Mint Chip Ice Cream.
But releasing this flavor after already having a mint flavor? Who asked for this?
The fact that Oreos were marketing themselves at double the price for a similar flavor?
Just so you know, Oreo says they’ll be available for “a limited time” only, but everyone knows that might just be a little bit manipulative. Perhaps Oreo is trying to rake in as much money as possible before they pull the plug.
We were promised that these Oreos were going to taste like ice cream, however when you bite into the Oreo, the overwhelming chocolate taste really caught us off guard. And the aftertaste was too minty. Guys, there was no balance.
All of it just made us mutter to ourselves, what is going on? Our hopes were crushed just like the chips inside the Oreo.
Pros: These Oreos were okay. The aftertaste definitely left a minty flavor in our mouths, and the looks reminded us of a bowl of Dreyer’s Mint Chip ice cream. These Oreos also tasted like someone stole the recipe from the Girl Scouts, which is never a bad idea.
Cons: It’s an average Oreo. It is minty and chocolatey, but it isn’t chippity. You wouldn’t be able to pay us to munch on more than four cookies in one sitting. While Nabisco was unsuccessful in creativity and originality, they did make up for it with a flavor that resembled the Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies. Therefore the rating is a C.
