The Super Bowl is known to be the biggest event in sports every year. Millions of citizens prepare for a night that will make history. On Feb. 7, the game will determine the next champion of football, America’s prized sport.

Both adults and kids enjoy watching football, including many at Day Creek Intermediate School. But, the NFL playoffs are when the sport gains its intense reputation.

“I really like football. I like to watch it in the playoffs. It’s just really fun to watch,” said Jake J. This reflects how much students enjoy viewing the sport.

Students on campus know their football, especially their favorite teams. The NFL playoffs contain the best teams battling against each other. The conclusion to the season ends in an amazing Super Bowl matchup.

Even though some fans’ teams are knocked out, followers stay loyal. An example of a true fan is Arland P. “[The Saints] are not in the playoffs, they aren’t that good… I’d probably expect them to make it to the playoffs next year.” The Saint’s record has definitely showed that the team needs improvement.

But football isn’t just about favorite teams, because true fans live for the rivalry games. One of the fun things about the playoffs is how fans hate the opposing teams and want to take them down. People acknowledge some teams that they definitely do not want to win the coveted Vince Lombardi Trophy.

“I’d probably say the Steelers. They play dirty,” said Arland P.

Several games have already taken place. In the Wild Card round, the Chiefs blew out the Texans 30-0; the Bengals lost to the Steelers because of poor sportsmanship, 18-16; the Packers performed well against the Redskins, 35-18; and the Vikings were conquered by the Seahawks, 10-9, because of a missed, game-winning field goal. In the divisional round, the Patriots beat the Chiefs, 27-20; the Cardinals beat the Packers, 26-20 in overtime; the Panthers defeated the Seahawks, 31-24; and the Steelers lost to the Broncos, 23-16. In the Conference Championships, it was Patriots vs. Broncos and Cardinals vs. Panthers. The Broncos won, and the Panthers won. The Broncos and Panthers will face off in Super Bowl 50 on Feb. 7, 2016.

“It was a close game, so I’m not that sad,” said Adam B. Thankfully, there are people who don’t go insane about their team being knocked out.

Many videos online will show how fans displayed dismal attitudes after a game.

“Football is a true passion to me. It’s been what’s keeping me going because the past years have been really hard for me and it’s been the only thing that has been keeping me from doing crazy things. We got kicked out of the house, so my dad had to live with his friend for a while. I was living with my mom for about a month or two, and it has been kind of hard. But, God has blessed us and now we finally have our old house again. There’s times when I was just so angry and I wouldn’t be able to control myself. But, it wasn’t to the point to where I would shoot someone. But after playing football, it made me calm down a little bit.” said Jordan W.

Football means a lot to kids and their families. Football influences lives, and helps get people through rough times. A lot of people would agree that football is very exciting and inspirational.

Only one game remains in the playoffs. Which team will win the Lombardi trophy? Tune in to the Broncos vs. Panthers in Super Bowl 50 on Feb. 7, 2016.
