Google is expanding YouTube and creating YouTube Red.

Have you heard of YouTube? It’s an extremely popular website where people make videos of doing basically everything, from challenges to story videos to cats jumping from curtains and cars and bridges and…you get the idea.  They have it all. YouTube owners, Google, recently came up with a new competitor for Netflix. They’ve decided to go bigger than just YouTube and have created YouTube Red. Google wants their “YouTubers” to pursue their dreams in acting. Let’s be honest; this is basically what people were already trying to do.

YouTube Red is a monthly subscription service from YouTube that removes all ads. Fans love the new ability to be able to watch their favorite YouTubers act in real-life scenarios or even on their own TV shows. IISuperwomanII, with a subscriber count of about 10 million, is one of the most popular YouTubers. Her real name is Lilly Singh and she even has a little show of her own called “A Trip to Unicorn Island.” Where she goes from state to state trying to find the perfect place to live. Other popular YouTubers have their own shows as well. Singh was one of the first shows on Youtube Red. She was released at the same time as 3 other shows; Scare Pewdiepie, Lazer Team, and Dance Camp.

YouTube Red has offline viewing and more. There are many features available including YouTube kids, games and basic YouTube. Subscribers can download videos which stay on the site for 30 days. Some features, including liking and commenting on videos, can’t be done offline.

While the first month is free, the app costs about $10.00 a month and is currently only available in the U.S. Google does plan to open it up to other countries eventually.

Along with YouTube Red, Google also recently created YouTube Music Key. Don’t they already have that? some wonder. I thought Google already had a music app. Yes, they do.  But Music Key makes it easier, not only to locate your songs, but also to listen to your favorite songs with your screen off. Just like Spotify, you can stream your favorite songs as long as your subscription is active.
