Disney Is Growing Up

Disney movies are evolving. They are slowly becoming more enjoyable for older individuals and less happy-go-lucky. Disney is at last getting more connected with reality. I mean, there’s a dinosaur with a birth defect that loses his father, and a bunny with big dreams that is bullied throughout her life. How could you not cry from that? Kleenex must have bribed Disney in some way.

A lot of previous Disney movies had similar story plots. There was an archetypal damsel in distress who was eventually saved by an overly handsome guy, typically a prince. Actually, every main character in a Disney movie looks unrealistically beautiful.

These days, with all of the commotion about gender inequality going on, Disney is finally letting the girls take the hero role. In Mulan and Frozen, boys aren’t needed to save a girlie-girl who fills the soundtrack with squealing. The movies are also getting less smoochy, smoochy.

Disney has made the lives of many children, including mine, magical. Disney taught kids about making dreams come true and that they could fly if they believed in themselves. Some kids believe in themselves a little too much and jump off of their beds screaming,”I can fly!” Now, Disney seems to be teaching kids profound life lessons rather than simply retelling fairy tales.

Disney movies are growing up no matter how much Peter Pan is against it. They have deeper messages and are easier to relate to. Disney is finally moving along.
