Day Creek’s Opinion Of Coffee

Jennica V. and Joy C.

Students and teachers who attend Day Creek Intermediate School explained how coffee affects us (students, teachers, other human beings), and their opinion on coffee.

To learn the different perspectives of Day Creek attendees, we started by interviewing a couple teachers from different grade levels.

“I think it doesn’t add anything nutritionally to your diet, [but] since your [young] bodies are developing, I think you should be taking in proper food,” said Mrs. Uhalley, a 7th grade teacher. “Starbucks is like a treat, you should only have it a few times a year.”

“When you are young, caffeine is mainly like a drug, and you shouldn’t be drinking it until you get to high school. Coffee is very sweet, so it’s mainly a treat.” She also says, “If I were to stop drinking coffee, I would get headaches, and If I weren’t drinking coffee I would be drinking tea.” said Mrs. Gossage, an 8th grade teacher.

Then, we interviewed some students around campus to learn their opinions about drinking coffee.

“So those particular kids, and other kids need to learn how to control themselves [around coffee]. It’s good and it’s very addicting, [but] coffee has this sugar in it, and kids love sugar. It depends if you can control it [your cravings], [but you] could really drink it at any age if you can control yourself.” said Carina C.

“Coffee does make kids hyper but it for sure wakes them up. I think when they are in high school they could be drinking coffee. I mainly drink water in the morning. I don’t like drinking drinks that give you a boost of energy.” said Tehani A.

Overall, coffee is a popular drink that has taken the liking of the students and teachers at DCIS, and they both have commented on the subject matter thoroughly. However, when drinking coffee, it can affect us in class and our regular everyday lives.
