On September 6, the administration hosted Day Creek’s first ever Spirit Rally. For the first time in the fall, students and teachers enjoyed a little friendly competition at the onset of a school year.
“One thing that our students are awesome about is that they work extremely hard, and we also like to have a lot of fun. The Spirit Rally was super fun,” said Mr. Zajicek.
While the Color Rally in the spring features the PE department’s creativity, the administration designed the fall Spirit Rally.
Before the day began, teachers chose their own class color or theme. For example, Keltner/Porter chose white, and they wrote positive messages on their shirts.
“I think [writing positive messages] is a good idea because it helps other people with positive stuff. It helps other people say nice things,” said Nathan C.
The rally was scheduled for one hour, and the time was filled with a presentation from the new dance team as well as athletic games like tug-of-war and hungry-hippos. Leadership students coordinated the events indoors as temperatures outside exceeded 100 degrees.
“Inside there is more room for people to stand, there’s a stage for our new dance team that we just created this year, and we have equipment for games and activities. It was in August [and] August is a hot month here in California, and we don’t want anyone getting heatstroke,” said Madison C.
This was the first Spirit Rally for 6th graders but the second to last for 8th graders. Both groups enjoyed the friendly competition, as this was a unique way to begin the 2024-2025 school year.
“The thing I enjoyed the most about the Spirit Rally was probably everybody being there and all coming together and all being loud and trying to help their class win,” said Gavin C.
