New Teachers On Campus

Emma D. and Taylor D.

New school. New kids. New teacher. It can be tough for the newbies on campus. New teachers come into school and have no idea what to expect. They are uncertain what their students will be like. They do not know what the staff will be like either. They are hoping for a welcoming group of people, but they aren’t sure what they’ll run into.

“I wound up here at Day Creek because my partner and I wanted a transfer to come up here. I heard wonderful things about this school. Everything I’ve seen has been great,” said Mrs. Neighbor.  She has been teaching for 12 years. She taught first grade, and second grade in Twin Falls, Idaho. “Language arts is new to me, but I like it a lot.”

Another new teacher, Mrs. Clarke, said, “The staff is very supportive and welcoming.  They love what they do – you can tell that they love what they do. So it helps people who are new to the school so they can have that same energy and excitement.”

Each of these teachers are new to campus and have had to learn all about an unknown place and group of students.  Through the challenge, they have worked to collaborate with their peers and connect with several groups of students.
Mrs. Hurley, “ I have been teaching 13 years. I taught at Etiwanda Intermediate School for 7th grade and now I am teaching 6th here. [Were you involved with kids before coming to this school] Yes, teaching the different ages for many years and also spending time with my daughters. I love my subject matter, Language Arts and Social Studies, I love History and I love to write. I love the staff, they are very nice, welcoming, and helpful.”
