Recent Terrorist Attacks

Many people know ISIS by the terror reports in the media. ISIS is a fairly large group whose interpretation of Islam has persuaded some people that the faith teaches persecution to those of other religions.

The two most recent attacks were in Paris, France, and San Bernardino, California.

On November 13, 2015, a shooting took place in Paris. 130 people were killed and 368 were wounded.  Of the 368 people, about 100 were seriously injured.

Several people were involved or very near this situation. 28-year-old Loubna L. lives about two miles away from where the Paris incident occurred.

“I was worried, but I was able to get ahold of her pretty soon, so I knew that everything was okay,” said Loubna’s brother, Zak L.

On December 2, 2015, another attack struck. Two married terrorists opened fire at a holiday party located in a conference room at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino.

Most buildings in San Bernardino, including schools, were forced to go on lockdown until the shooters were caught.

The scene was a mile away from James Hoffman’s office, a parent of a student at Day Creek. “[When hearing there was a shooting a mile away] I was a little bit scared, but I knew I was safe because we have our own police officers working in the building. They have their own weapons and armor,” said Hoffman. “Also, the police made sure nobody got in or out of the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s office.”

At the Inland Regional Center, 14 people were killed and 22 were injured, most of them county employees.
Both attackers were killed in a shootout with the police.  One officer was shot, but the wound wasn’t life-threatening.
