Miranda builds excitement for new Hamilton movie.

What is a legacy?

For Alexander Hamilton, it’s a musical, a face on the $10 bill, and a place in our 8th-grade history books. However, his ‘garden’ (spoiler alert; he says this before Burr shoots him) is yet to be completed, as a new movie has been filmed.

By joining forces with Walt Disney Co. and the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York, Hamilton will be back in the spotlight with the premiere on October 15th, 2021.

The original musical describes Hamilton’s life through his legislative work, fight in the American Revolution, development of congress´ system.

Fans hope that the movie remake will have the same feel as the original, though some speculate that it will be a simple yet professional recording of the stage production.

“I believe it [the movie] will be a recording of the cast. I don’t think it would be as horrible as other remade musicals, as [the scenes] would be more high-quality if they don’t have to do it in person,” said Sophia S., a serious “Hamilfan.”

Since Disney is also participating in the production of the film,  Lin Manuel Miranda might have to make a few scenes and lyrics more family-friendly. A few songs have curse words and explicit scenes, which would not fit Disney’s image.

“Disney has worked with Lin for multiple occasions and they know his writing style and how he writes songs and stuff. I’m pretty sure they won’t change it much since they know Lin has a certain style that they might want to keep because that’s probably what got Hamilton to be noticed,” said Royce C., a Hamilton fan since its debut in 2015.

Miranda has already produced hit songs beloved by the whole family, so writing a family-friendly script may not be an issue.

“When I went to see Hamilton I got the vibe of how Hamilton is based on the scenery and how it felt when you like walk-in, and a movie theater is different from when you pay to see a Broadway,” Royce said.

With the upcoming production, the sky’s the limit!
