For the first time in what seems like forever, Day Creek turns into a Winter Wonderland.

Rancho Cucamonga, California isn’t exactly world-renowned for its frosty winds and snowy hills. But on February 21, 2019, Day Creek students from sixth to eighth grade got to experience a unique moment in middle school, as icy white snow fell from the sky – a first in our campus’ history.

“Some people have never seen snow before,” said Samantha O., a seventh-grader at Day Creek.  According to the San Bernardino Sun, the last time it snowed in Rancho Cucamonga at all was December 30, 2012. Some of us were still in kindergarten when that last happened!

I thought…this is weird ‘cause it’s never really like that (in Rancho Cucamonga),

Days like this feel surreal, as our school is far more prepared for temperatures beyond 100 degrees.

“I didn’t think it was real,” said Reagan T., another seventh grader. However, she soon found out that it was actually snowing. “Everybody came in, and they were screaming it’s snowing, it’s snowing, it’s snowing!” said Reagan.

But for some Day Creek students, this was the first time they had ever seen snow.

“I was in a PACK class, and someone went to the bathroom. Then, they came back and was like ‘Guys, it’s snowing!’ and we all went outside to see the snow” said seventh-grader Elsa L. She, like most of us, had never seen snow in California before.

Mark it on your calendars, Day Creek! February 21, 2019 may go down as the most exciting day of the 2018-2019 school year.
