Do you like playing sports or being active? Students at Day Creek Intermediate certainly do.  “Head Jester” Patrick recently introduced Diablos to the campus.  Diablos are a new, entertaining way to get exercise and have fun.

On September 2, 2015, “Head Jester” Patrick came to DCIS to give a presentation on Diablos, otherwise known as Chinese yo-yos. The now-famous Diablos definitely picked up the interest of kids around the school. When asked why he thought a student would choose a Diablo over typical playground equipment like a frisbee or a ball, Patrick replied, “Well, you can get very, very creative with it. It’s different. There are a lot more things you can do with it,”

During a recent physical education class, Patrick taught all of Day Creek’s students how to entertain themselves on the playground and at home. Now some are addicted to Diablos.

“They get addicting because they are better are better than regular yoyos. You can do more tricks and it is easier.“ said Frank C.

Before school, at lunch, and after school, students can be seen playing with Diablos. They definitely seem to introduce a new way for kids to have fun. Diablos fly so high that they can get lost in the air. If surrounding kids weren’t paying attention, they could risk being hit in the head when gravity takes over.  However, teachers and staff are careful to prevent injuries.

“If provided enough space, then it’s safe,” said Miss Bouchelion, a Day Creek proctor.
Students and staff seem to agree that Diablos are a great new way to play outdoors and have fun.
