Junior Olympians

Everyone knows that there are many Olympians around the world. But athletic competition doesn’t start there. Did you know that there are also Junior Olympians who begin competing much earlier? Some of these Junior Olympians are on Day Creek’s campus. According to the USA Track and Field organization, there are 2,780 Olympians, but over 70,000 Junior Olympians!

Some famous Olympians who started as Junior Olympians include Maurice Greene, Allyson Felix, Bryan Clay, John Godina, Deena Kastor, and Allen Johnson.

There are also Junior Olympians closer to home. We have several at Day Creek Intermediate, including Nicole B., Cassie W., and Logan P.

According to these young athletes, it takes hard work and dedication to be a Junior Olympian. They have to focus at school and maintain grades, while also developing their Olympic talent.  This isn’t always easy to do.

“Water polo takes up so much of my time where it’s hard to do school[work and other activities],” says Cassie W., an eighth grader.

Junior Olympians demonstrate that they have the potential, perseverance, and hope to be future Olympians as they trained hard to achieve their goals.

Sometimes athletes struggle in their sport and have to choose to push through a hardship.
