A tropical storm named Florence has caused over one million people to evacuate their homes on the East Coast. The disaster has closed more than 100 roads, and cut off the power to almost 500,000 homes and businesses. At least 18 people have died, including a one-year old boy who ripped from his mother’s arms by the waters of a deep, flooding creek. AccuWeather estimates that the damages will cost about $30 to $60 to North Carolina’s economy.

“We just don’t want people to think this is over because it’s not. It’s not anywhere,” North Carolina governor Roy Cooper said on Saturday.“Thank you @POTUS for listening to our concerns & for caring about South & North Carolina,” tweeted Myrtle Beach Mayor Brenda Bethune. “It is comforting to know that you have our backs!”
