Wonder is based on R.J. Palacio’s popular book, a fictional masterpiece describing the life of a 5th-grade boy with a facial deformity. Throughout the entire storyline, there are valuable messages about kindness and friendships that often occur during a tween’s daily life. August, also known as Auggie, is the main character of the movie, and the storyline mostly revolves around his life. Like the book, the movie also includes the perspectives of some of his close friends and family.

In Lionsgate’s Wonder, August Pullman, played by Jacob Tremblay, faces a craniofacial condition and was homeschooled by his beloved mom, Isabel Pullman, played by Julia Roberts. After Auggie completed his 4th-grade educational program at home his mother decided to approach the topic of public school. Auggie was hesitant because he did not like to encounter other children or people in general. His fear reflected how strangers responded to his facial deformity – they would usually visibly react, even jump, when they saw him. A long period of time went by during the summer break before August finally decided that the brave thing to do was to go to “regular” school. Throughout his experience at Beacher Preparatory, he made friends and enemies, and struggled through his 5th-grade year.

Wonder is a PG movie, suitable for most Day Creek students. It has been rated 91% on the Rotten Tomatoes website. The Howl staff greatly recommends watching this movie as soon as possible! You’ll certainly enjoy it.
