A gunman identified as Kevin Jansen Neal killed five people in Rancho Tehama, a community in Northern California. The shooting began when the gunman shot and killed his wife, which he later hid under his house. Afterwards, the gunman opened fire at an elementary school as well as six other areas, sending two children to the hospital with gunshot wounds.

“As we approach the five-year anniversary of the horrifying shooting at Sandy Hook, it’s heartbreaking that we’ve made so little progress in preventing these shootings. Elementary schools like the one in Rancho Tehama Reserve shouldn’t have to prepare for mass shootings,” Senator Dianne Feinstein said on Twitter.
