LiAngelo Ball, Cody Riley, and Jalen Hill, UCLA freshman basketball players, were detained in China under the suspicion of shoplifting. According to President Trump, who helped them arrive home, the players “were headed for 10 years in jail.” UCLA is deeply concerned about the matter and hopes to deal with it thoroughly.

“I want to be clear that we take seriously any violations of the law,” Block, the UCLA chancellor, said in a statement. “We remain one of the world’s top academic institutions in large part because of our values and standards, which we work hard to infuse throughout our campus community.”
