California Becomes A ‘Sanctuary State’
October 6, 2017
California’s governor, Jerry Brown, has signed a bill that limits how local and state law enforcement can work with federal immigration officers. The bill blocks state and local agencies from asking what an individual’s immigration status is. This effectively prevents non-federal law enforcement from detaining illegal immigrants, allowing California to become a ‘sanctuary state.’
As said on NPR, “California Gov. Jerry Brown has signed a bill that places sharp limits on how state and local law enforcement agencies can cooperate with federal immigration authorities…It blocks the deputization of police as immigration agents and bars state and local law enforcement agencies from inquiring into an individual’s immigration status.”
