The Yellowstone supervolcano erupts roughly every 600,000 years, and now it’s about time for it to blow. NASA has created a $3.46 billion plan to cool the magma chamber with high-pressure water, stopping the explosion. By digging 10 kilometers into the ground, NASA can prevent an extreme famine that could cause us to completely run out of food just 74 days after the eruption.

As said on Alphr, “NASA reckons the best way of dealing with this…is to pump high-pressure water 10km down into the site of the [magma] chamber, in effect cooling the area down…with predicted costs of $3.46 billion, it doesn’t come cheap either…water pumped down would circulate back round at a temperature of 350˚C (662˚F)”
