California’s Oroville Dam Forces Thousands To Evacuate

Ajooni G., Writer

Almost 200,000 people were forced to evacuate from areas near Oroville Dam in Northern California on Sunday because officials feared that the dam’s emergency spillway would fail, sending overwhelming amounts of water into the Feather River, which leads to the Sacramento River and other waterways. The dam had reached its capacity, causing the severe damage of its main spillway. But, by late Sunday night, officials said that the immediate threat had passed. According to the Los Angeles Times, with more storms coming later in the week, officials are rushing to fix the dam so it doesn’t overflow again.
