Are McDonald’s chicken nuggets the enemy of organic food?

Rachel B., Editor-in-chief

My night was going pretty well, or so I thought. I was just watching the commercials in between the Olympic swimming clips when a McDonald’s advertisement popped up. I listened to a man presenting their “wonderful” improvement of chicken nuggets. “Introducing McDonald’s new Chicken McNuggets; made with 100% white-meat chicken and no artificial colors, flavors, and now no artificial preservatives.” Let me just say that my stomach went from full to empty within seconds.

Before watching that traumatic commercial, I didn’t really think that people could be cruel enough to knowingly serve fake junk to customers. I mean we’re all friends in this perfect world, right? But now I know. All those nuggets I ate…ugh.

I’ve always heard people saying that McDonald’s serves very unhealthy food. This statement is not completely accurate. According to CBS news, McDonald’s received a C when graded for its antibiotic policies. Although it is the lowest passing grade acceptable, it is still a passing grade. In fact, McDonald’s got a higher score than most fast-food restaurants including Wendy’s, Subway, Chili’s, and IHOP. Oh, come on… there goes my tower of pancakes.

Mcdonald’s seems decent when I look one way, but like all those artificial preservatives I’ve eaten, Mcdonald’s can get nauseating. I guess you can’t expect much from fast-food. Better stick with the salad.
