Day Creek’s First Ever Media Camp

Savanna A., Writer

As the new school year finally approaches, it’s time to get our heads back in the game. The Day Creek Howl (journalism), Tracks (yearbook) and CNN (broadcasting) also known as DCIS Media, hosted its first ever camp over the summer to get a head start for the coming school year.

On the 29th and 30th of June, Mr. Gossage, Mrs. Gossage and Mrs. Schemenauer hosted the DCIS Media Camp to ensure that all media students got a jump on this year’s news adventure. Some of the subjects Journalism went over were photography, proper interview techniques, the 1st Amendment, and future plans for all of the Day Creek Media.

The Coyote News Network (CNN) was welcomed by an unexpected visitor on the first day. Some can called it a huge lizard and others, a dinosaur. Thankfully, they were able to catch and release the giant reptile. Broadcasting began to experiment with iMovie to create its first campus video.

Yearbook was able to come up with a yearbook design for the 2016/2017 school year, giving them a great head start. Throughout the event, the three electives were in charge of the food. On the first day, Journalism served sandwiches for lunch. On the second day, Yearbook was head of breakfast and Broadcasting in charge of lunch.

Journalism is no longer alone. Now, it has Yearbook and Broadcasting by its side to give it the extra stride it needs. Since the summer is over, it’s time for the hard work to begin! Watch out America, the Coyotes are coming!
