A few minutes after the lunch bell rings, William walks up to get his lunch. Two minutes later, another kid who looks identical arrives at the front of the line. Is it William? Is he trying to get another lunch? Actually, it’s his identical twin, Harry.
The confusion between these twins on campus, William and Harry X., has gone on since the two boys can remember.
“We’re identical twins, and many people cannot tell us apart from each other,” said Harry.
The Howl searched for everything…anything…to try to distinguish the two. Finally we hit success: ketchup.
“I don’t like ketchup, and William likes it for some reason,” said Harry.
Beyond their identical looks, Harry and Willliam, both enjoy math and gaming, and they also have a passion for similar attire.
“We both like to dress in the same clothes everyday, because it makes it more fun that way,” said Harry.
Their similar appearances, personality and hobbies can make it challenging to recognize which brother is which. No matter how often both boys remind students and teachers, everyone at Day Creek still has a hard time telling the difference.
“Everyday, people are like, ‘Hey Willam,’ and I’m like, ‘Bro, I’m Harry,’ and when people want my phone number, I just give them a random number,” said Harry. “People are just mistaking me for my brother.”
When twins look identical, it can be tempting to take advantage of the fact that they each have their own doppelganger.
“We haven’t pulled a prank or done anything like that, even though a lot of people want us to,” said Harry.
Even though having a twin can be annoying and confusing at times, it is a unique experience having someone who shares nearly identical interests and ideas. Especially when they start a new class with new teachers and peers.
“They’ve never seen us with each other, so when they see both of us, they start freaking out, and then they start to think that they’re hallucinating,” said Harry.
“I like having a twin because I am not lonely, and it makes me feel special because not everyone has an identical twin. It is also funny when people mix us up, and then we have to explain it to them, and they don’t get it because they haven’t seen us before. There are also a lot of new people in the school, like ⅔ of them, that didn’t go to John. L. Golden, so many people have never seen us before,” says Harry.
The experiences between these two have created a special bond that is definitely one of a kind at Day Creek.
