The wildfires in Pacific Palisades have finally died down, leaving behind a path of devastation. CAL FIRE has recorded more than 6,800 structures destroyed; which includes cars, buildings, and small sheds in its path. Combined with a death toll of eleven and hurricane wind speeds, the fire (now 77% contained), is part of one of the worst fire seasons in California history.
In addition, the nearby Eaton fire has burned more than 9,000 buildings and occupied over 14,000 acres in the regions surrounding Pasadena and Altadena. However, recent news reports show that the fire is 95% contained.
The fight against these fires became an international effort. Canada and Mexico recently announced their help by assisting California with additional firefighters.
California’s governor, Gavin Newsom announced on January 10th that an inspection will be done on the fire hydrants. Trump is also coming to California today, January 24, to meet with the people affected by the fire.Trump recently accused Newsom on Truth Social for refusing “to sign the water restoration declaration put before him.” He argued that Newsom cares more about preserving the endangered fish called the Delta smelt.
