Let the games begin!
On Nov 14, the first Day Creek girls’ basketball team in over twelve years competed against the Wildcats of EIS. While much of the energy going into the game was exciting, the results stung, as the girls lost 21-7.
The energy at the onset was high. Students and parents were definitely behind their Coyotes. They stood and cheered in hopes of the home team making a comeback against EIS.
“The Day Creek girls [will win] because we’re the best,” said Mrs. Mason.
But some students recognized the imposing team that they were about to play. “EIS will win. It’s going to be 90 to 0,” said Gavin W.
Once the game began, it was clear that the Wildcats brought their ‘A’ game, as the Coyotes struggled to keep up. EIS took an early lead, and they never looked back.
“I know that we’re down by a few right now, but we’re just past halftime. I think that we’re going to win this, and I’m really excited about it. I wake up in the morning thinking Day Creek is the number one champs. Highly unlikely [that EIS beats us today] but if that’s the case, we will pick ourselves up and try again next time,” said Mr. Woosley.
With only two practices for the team to get to know each other’s styles on the court, the team will certainly grow as they develop together. Regardless of the scoreboard, the coaches were still pleased with the team.
“I was really proud of the girls. I thought that they came and played really hard. There were a couple things we need to work on, but overall, and especially with this crowd, with the pressure they had with only two practices, they looked awesome,” said Mr. Celis.
Yuiki T., Liana A. and Grace T. led Coyote scorers with two points each.
Though it was a tough loss for the Day Creek girls, the season continues on, and the team will have plenty of opportunities to grow together in hopes of finding their first win. Good luck on your next game, Coyotes!
