This is a 7th grade coyote participating in the annual Survivor Ball tournament.

Dodgeballs flew through the air, students cheered and everyone watched with huge anticipation. This annual event takes place just a few days before Winter Break. Students spent three full periods on December 18-20 to cheer on their classmates.

P.E. teachers refereed as students competed in five-minute rounds. Winners advanced and losers were eliminated. This continued until two teams were left.

“It’s something you do every year and this year, everyone was involved. It was a lot of fun. There were a lot of kids surrounding the court during the championship game. It was really cool,” said Mr. Marshall.

This game was lively. But what made this so highly anticipated, may have been the connection friends enjoyed through the experience.

“It was fun [but]I was nervous because I was in front of everybody. My favorite part of the tournament was getting to be a team with my friends,” said Jayleen VS.

Survivor Ball is a version of dodgeball; groups signed up to go head-to-head. These teams were separated by boys and girls. Each grade level had their own tournament.

“A lot of people had fun and that’s a good thing,” said Anna W.

When kids are able to work with friends, they are able to bond and have fun that they wouldn’t normally have.

“It was very, very fun because my team was good,” said Taylor S.

Students were able to grow their team building skills as they worked together creating team names.

“It’s fun and competitive. My favorite part was the teamwork that goes with it and that I can hang out with my friends all day,” said Mya G.

This event was thrilling. The ferocity and tenacity among kids was obvious.

“It was really competitive, everyone wanted to win,” said Lucy X.

This Survivor Ball tournament was a huge success. Students appreciated the time and planning that the P.E teachers put in to make this event happen. This was a unique way to kick off the holiday break. Congratulations to each of the winning teams!
