This Wednesday a suspected Chinese high-altitude balloon floated over Billings, Montana. In fact, the US had been tracking this “surveillance” balloon for the past 7 days as it floated over the northern United States. Meaning that other civilians also have seen it. So far, according to Pentagon spokesman Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder, this floating balloon poses no threat to the military and people on the ground. As far as safety reasons, the idea of shooting down the balloon is out of the question. Which was confirmed on Thursday by President Joe Biden due to the safety risk from debris.
