COVID Cases in California are on the Rise as the Holiday Season Approaches
December 17, 2020
Coronavirus cases in California have surpassed the record tally of 53,337, as of December 16th. Out of these cases, 293 people have died. Though the record is 53,337, the average number of cases per day is over 35,000. Because this surge in cases is so great, currently, there are refrigerated trucks and trailers acting as temporary morgues, and there are not enough available hospital beds. This spike of cases has caused some businesses to close down again.
Due to the recent COVID-19 surges, the holiday season is bound to be different this year. Getting together with family and friends would normally be what the holidays are all about, but this year hosting a gathering could put the health and safety of those you love at risk. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends not to travel or attend gatherings in order to guarantee safety and slow the spread of the virus. With this in mind, it may be hard not to feel a little Grinchy, but there are still plenty of ways to celebrate our favorite holidays safely. The CDC recommends gathering virtually with friends and family. Some other ideas are decorating, watching movies, and baking special treats.
However you decide to spread the cheer this holiday season, stay safe and healthy!
