Anyone who has read the books or seen the movies knows of the devastating deaths in this series. Any true Potterhead has cried their eyes out from the tragedy!

SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! If you have not read all of the books or seen the movies – DO NOT READ THIS!

Harry Potter

Oh no! Shocking! Did he really?! Nope, I’m only joking. The infamous chosen one does not die in the series. Other than that ‘one time.’  But it doesn’t really count! He literally just ‘fainted,’ for a split second or so. Come on, he survived from the evil, ‘he who shall not be named.’ It’s probably going to be hard to kill the green-eyed boy.

Let’s get into the dreaded passings of our beloved characters.

Dobby the House Elf

Who doesn’t love this courageous house elf? From getting free from Harry’s witty trick on Lucius Malfoy to saving the ‘Golden Trio’ from the evil Bellatrix, his final moments on screen made most Potter fans tear up. The books, ever so detailed, broke the hearts of millions of readers around the world. His last words were deeply heartbreaking as he lay in the arms of Harry: “Such a beautiful place it is, to be with friends. Dobby is happy to be with his friend, Harry Potter.”

Professor Severus Snape

Snape is the very definition of a plot twist. From the first book, all we knew was that Snape was a sarcastic, rude professor. Then in his final moments, we see the real, loving man he was inside. Nagini’s sharp and strong bite was the cause of the downfall of Snape. Harry Potter was also there to see his passing. Harry, however, learned that his professor was madly in love with his mother, Lily Potter. After her death, which Snape blamed himself for, he made a promise to himself that he would protect Harry no matter what. As his final moments’ approached, he asked for one last request. With Harry at his side, he asked Harry, “Look at me.” He stared into the eyes of Harry, which were the same color as his mother, Lily. “You have your mother’s eyes.” Snape finally said.

Fred Weasley

This sad and devastating death destroyed all of those fans crazy about the loving, Weasley gingers. George, Fred’s twin brother, even named his son “Fred” in honor of his death. After all that happened, he made sure that he died laughing and joking. This makes every Potterhead cry even thinking about it. His unfinished last words were, “You actually are joking Perce, … I don’t think I’ve heard you joke since you were–”. Though his last words were unfinished, it definitely hit home for many, many people.

Dumbledore

Dumbledore. I think a good amount of people know this amazing, wise, old wizard. Not only was he the greatest wizard in history, but he was so much more. He took Harry under his wing, being a parental figure and a (rather confusing) person to talk to for Harry. In the sixth book of the Harry Potter series, The Half-Blood Prince, Snape kills Dumbledore. Yes, Severus Snape, who has known Dumbledore for ages. Yet, Dumbledore was dying anyway and begged Snape to end his life. Since Dumbledore knew that Draco, who was to kill Dumbledore to prove his loyalty to Voldemort, did not have the strength to kill him. So instead, Dumbledore asked Snape to kill him. Dumbledore sacrificed himself so Snape could prove to Voldemort that he was loyal. “Severus… please,” Dumbledore begs for death, and sadly his pleads were fulfilled.

Sirius Black

Sirius was a kind, loving, and truly brave Gryffindor. He was sadly killed by the spell, Avada Kedavra, in the book Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix. Harry Potter was mainly affected by this because Sirius would’ve been able to be his caretaker. This meant that the Dursleys’ would have been out of Harry’s life. Sirius was a kind character in the story and, apparently, “killed twelve muggles”. He was framed and was punished by being locked up in the most dreaded place of all… Azkaban. Harry was so excited to be able to live with Sirius, but his dream was not fulfilled. Sadly, Harry had to have two more summers with his spoiled cousin and rude aunt and uncle.

Cedric Diggory

Most Hufflepuffs, or maybe everyone else, probably had Cedric as a crush for at least one point in their lifetime. But, that all ended in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. After grabbing hold of the Triwizard Cup, Cedric and Harry were transported to the Little Hangleton graveyard where Peter Pettigrew was ordered by Voldemort to kill him. His last words weren’t very important, but they were, “Wands out, d’you reckon”. This showed how innocent he was as a wizard.

Remus Lupin

Remus Lupin was also killed during the Battle of Hogwarts. Remus was a very important role in Harry’s life. Remus was great friends with Harry’s father and found it to be his responsibility to watch over Harry. With many hardships in his life, such as fighting the urges of being a werewolf, there is no doubt that Lupin is a very strong man. As he fights alongside his beautiful wife, Tonks, who sadly dies fighting Antonin Dolohov, who is a death eater. However, his remembrance lives on.

Nymphadora Tonks

Oh, what a humble and kind woman Tonks was. She was a Hufflepuff, so it makes sense. Tonks is a very loveable, cunning character. With her being a powerful Metamorphmagus and a witty woman, who wouldn’t admire her? Yet she sadly died during the Battle of Hogwarts as well as her fellow friends. She passed with her husband, Remus Lupin, beside her. What made more readers feel even more sorrowful? Tonks and Remus just had their son Edward, who was just an infant when his parents died. Yet the two lovers passed next to each other, the last things they saw before they died were each other’s faces. But their heroic battles did not go to waste, Hogwarts won against Voldemort and his army of death eaters. What a bittersweet ending.f

Hedwig

The curse in which killed Harry’s loving, kind, and gentle pet was The Killing Curse. She has been with Harry through thick and thin. This was really emotional for people that have lost a dearly beloved pet. The person that the curse was originally meant for was Rubeus Hagrid. A death eater that fought in The Battle of the Seven Potters killed Hedwig. Hedwig has been remembered ever since then.

Mad-Eye Moody

Mad-Eye Moody was always there for Harry and had a duty to keep him safe. He was killed by a death eater during the Battle of the Seven Potters. With most of Harry’s loyal friends using a polyjuice potion to turn into him to throw off the death eaters, Moody protecting Harry was sadly killed due to Mundungus’s panic. Moody was that strange guy who a few people understood. No, more like respect. I don’t think anyone but Dumbledore understood the mysterious man. But that’s what made people like him more. With his brave heart to his amazing wizard skills, Moody wasn’t someone to mess with. Moody will always be the weird man that many Potter fans have grown to love.

That’s some of the most memorable deaths. Most readers know how horrible it feels to read and see a character die. Raise your wands Potter fans to these ten amazing witches and wizards that J.k Rowling has exposed us to.
