We all know that Day Creek’s students are pretty sharp when it comes to our four core subjects. But we often forget about the other talents (other than math, science, social studies and language arts) that students at our school possess. But lucky for you, the Day Creek Howl team will recognize them for you.

On January 29, Sydnee R. traveled to Las Vegas in order to compete in a international taekwondo tournament, where she fought against people as far away as Canada and Guatemala. She won two of her four matches this year. She also finished as an International Medalist.

“This is my second one. I won a bronze (medal) in November when I fought someone from Hong Kong,” she said.

Sydnee has been doing this for seven years  [which is obvious from her title as an International Medalist] and has made some friends along the way.

“I’ve made really close friendships because we (teammates) have a similar goal,” she said.

She enjoys taekwondo for some pretty interesting reasons.“I really like the rush I get from it,” she said. “I also like doing it because I think its funny when people are scared that I will kick them in the head,” she said while laughing.

If you were to observe one of her matches, you’d probably think twice about any prank you might plan for her. She can easily kick people in the head. Though maybe if you were kicked in the head, you’d decide it was pretty cool. Whatever the case might be, competitive fighting is definitely Sydnee’s thing.
