Where will you live? Or should I say, when will you die?

Crystal M., Writer

Everyone wants to live long lives, right? There are lots of factors when it comes to living: taxes, the area, the government and many other things. So where are these magical places with fountains of immortality?

In Japan, woman live to about 87 and men live to about 80. The reasons for this is that they exercise often, they have a good diet and enjoy a close community. Their community is important because it lets them feel like they are a part of something. They feel connected.

Another place with a semi-fountain of immortality is Spain. In Spain, women live to about 85 and men live to about 80. Like Japan, a Spanish diet has a big impact on life span. They often eat vegetables, wine and olive oil. But when they eat is also important. Spain closes all shops from 2:00 to 5:00 o’clock. By having this three hour break, they are able to digest their food better. The more time to eat, the better.

Singapore’s residents also live long lives. Women live to about 85 and men live to about 80. Their health care system is very good and they are also very environmental. They recently opened a therapeutic park which lowers stress and increases well-being.

Well, what about America? In America, women live to about 86 years old and men live to about 85. In Washington D.C, the average of men and women is 72 years, the lowest in the entire country.

Ultimately, how long you live seems to depend on what you do. Maybe eating that gallon of ice cream is cutting 10 years off your life, but living in Japan can help get five years back. So feel free to consume that Haagen-Daz as long as you live somewhere near a fountain of immortality.
