News has spread that Day Creek Coyotes are watching shows without a screen on the school’s hardcourts.
Local 6th-grade puppet show prodigy, Truman K., has been puppeteering for a few years but has only started doing shows this school year. He recently performed a puppet show with sharks and boats before Halloween. The shark was his first puppet, a Christmas present from his mom.
“My mom got me a shark puppet, so one day I brought it here and decided to do a show for one of my friends,” said Truman K.
Truman does his shows to bring positivity to the kids who are having a rough day. They make a potentially boring school day more interesting.
“I started doing it because I thought it [would] make people happy. I have these friends, and I think they are positively affected by the show. You know, sometimes it’s just a boring day and people just need some entertainment,” said Truman K.
Truman creates many of his stories from his own mind, and that creativity is one of the most enjoyable parts of his shows.
“Like classic ones, sometimes I improvise and make my own stories. I think it’s the part where they get to hear stories and stuff [that makes them happy],” said Truman K.
Even though he tries to cheer people up, not everyone stops to enjoy the moment.
“I don’t think many people are interested in them. Some of the 7th graders and 8th graders have more studying to do. I think it [has to do with] getting older and responsibilities,” said Truman K.
Despite also having his own set of responsibilities, Truman plans to continue entertaining his audience.
“Yeah, [I’m gonna continue my shows]. Actually, doing the puppet shows makes me comfortable,” said Truman K.
Truman enjoys the opportunity of creating his scripts and shows, all in an effort to spread his positivity and optimism. He’ll continue to invite any and all who would stop to share in the moment.
