The 2024 World Series is finally over as the Dodgers beat the Yankees 7-6 in New York in Game 5.
During the first 5 innings, Dodger fans lost hope of winning as the Yankees took a 5-0 lead.
“[I felt] really bad watching the whole thing. They were so far behind, and I thought it would be too hard for them to catch up,” said Michelle W.
But the Dodgers refused to back down. Instead, the team made the biggest comeback in World Series history by scoring five runs in the fifth inning, which tied the score, gave them the confidence to strike out former Dodger Alex Verdugo and take home the 2024 World Series title.
“I was in shock. It was surreal. I thought we were going to have to go to a sixth game. There was a lot of anxiety,” said Michelle W.
The last time the Dodgers took home the World Series title, the city of Los Angeles denied the Dodgers their championship parade due to the Coronavirus pandemic, disappointing fans and players alike. WIth Covid in the rearview mirror, the city of Los Angeles has approved of the 2024 World Series Championship Parade. It will take place in Gloria Molina Grand Park, starting at 11am on Friday, November 1. The 45-minute parade will culminate with a ticketed event at Dodger Stadium.
Despite the celebration, the Dodgers have not forgotten former Hall of Famer, Fernando Valenzuela, who passed away on October 22nd 2024. The Dodgers plan on paying tribute to the Dodger who would’ve been sixty-four today.
“I respect Fernando and the Dodgers decision to give him a tribute. I believe he deserves this, especially after not being able to watch the Dodgers beat the Yankees again, since in his last World Series in 1980, he helped the Dodgers win against the Yankees,” said Jonathan S.
As the Day Creek community celebrates the nerve-wracking Game 5 Dodgers win, we remember all of the people that helped them get to where they are, and each of the past players who have done so much for fans throughout Southern California. Congrats LA Dodgers!
