On the morning of February 23, 2021, Tiger Woods was in a horrific car crash, resulting in major injuries to his right leg. After over a year of recovery, Woods finally returned to the green at the Masters Tournament in Augusta, Georgia.

At the time of the accident, Woods was driving alone in the Rolling Hills Estates near Los Angeles when he lost control of the wheel, crashing his SUV into a raised median and rolling down the side of a hill.

After the crash, Woods faced critical injuries. Officers said that when they arrived at the scene, he was conscious but was unable to talk and answer questions. He suffered from a severe leg injury and doctors considered amputation.

“It’s going to be a long rehab period and it’s going to be painful. We can assume that he’s going to go through bumps and twists and turns,” Dr. Robert Glatter said at the time.

According to NBC News, before choosing to sever his leg, doctors opted to “reassemble the limb by placing a rod in the tibia and using screws and pins to stabilize additional injuries in the ankle and foot.”

Post-surgery, Woods faced a long healing process. From February 2021 to April 2022, he was stuck at home working on his recovery. And his time recuperating was no easy task.

“I have those days where I just don’t want to do anything,” said Woods. “It just hurts, but as I alluded to earlier, I’ve had a great team around me that are super positive and have motivated me and helped me around.”

Nobody was even sure if the golf star would be able to play again. But even with the odds against him, he returned to the golf course last weekend.

“Just to be able to play, and not only just to play, but I put up a good first round,” Woods said during the Masters tournament, “I got myself there. I don’t quite have the endurance that I would like to have, but as of a few weeks ago, I didn’t even know if I was going to play in this event.”

Not only does Tiger Woods feel the enthusiasm of being back, but the excitement is also stimulating the golf community.

“Just having Tiger play again is amazing. A few a year is well worth it and a miracle,” tweeted a fan of Woods.

With motivation from his fans, Woods came back to the course with determination. Although he only finished in 47th place, he received a standing ovation at the end of the final round.

“It’s been incredible,” Woods said, “I have had so much support from people both inside and outside of golf which means so much to me and has helped tremendously.”
