Super Bowl LIV was held on February 2nd. The Kansas City Chiefs took home the Lombardi Trophy after defeating the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 31-20. It is the first time in fifty years the Chiefs won the Super Bowl title.

Demi Lovato started the game by singing the national anthem. Charles E. McGee flipped tails on the coin toss. The San Francisco 49ers chose to receive the ball in the second half.

The Kansas City Chiefs started with the possession of the ball in the first quarter. Then at 7:57, the San Francisco 49ers scored the first points of the game by kicking a field goal at 38-yards.

After attempting to make a touchdown, Patrick Mahomes ran the ball at 0:31 giving the Chiefs a 7-3 lead.

At the start of the second quarter, Jimmy Garappolo threw an interception at the twelve yard line, giving the Chiefs the ball. The Chiefs scored a field goal from 31-yards out giving Kansas City the upper-hand. Kyle Juszczyk ran 15-yards, scoring a touchdown for the San Francisco 49ers. The Kansas City Chiefs punted the ball with a minute left in the quarter. The final score at halftime was 10-10.

The halftime show was performed by Shakira and Jennifer Lopez. Shakira started by singing seven songs, which included Hips Don’t Lie and Waka Waka. Then Jennifer Lopez came on stage and sang On the Floor and Let’s Get Loud along with others. The two singers then joined together on the stage for the final minutes. When they concluded, the fans cheered ecstatically for the duo.

During the third quarter, the San Francisco 49ers increased their lead. They scored a 60-yard field goal making the score 13-10. Then Patrick Mahomes threw an interception giving the 49ers possession of the ball. Raheem Mostert scored a touchdown in the final two minutes of the second quarter. The San Francisco 49ers now led the Chiefs by 10.

The Chiefs threw a second interception three minutes into the fourth quarter. With 6:13 left in the game, Patrick Mahomes passed the ball to Travis Kelce and scored a touchdown for the Chiefs. They also made a field goal, closing the 49ers’ 20-17 lead. With 2:44 left, the game changed. Damien Williams crossed the goal line in what the referees said was a touchdown. However, it was only confirmed after an official review. The Chiefs took the lead, 24-20, and never looked back. With two minutes left in the game, Damien Williams ran 38 yards and scored a final touchdown for the Chiefs with a final score of 31-20.

The Kansas City Chiefs finally took home the Lombardi Trophy. Patrick Mahomes became the youngest person to win a Super Bowl at the age of 24. He also earned MVP honors after the game. All 32 teams gave it their best this season, but only one team could win the Super Bowl title. After 50 years, it was finally the Kansas City Chiefs’ turn.
