Why People Hate Country Music

Many people SHOULD consider country music, instead of following the trend of hating it.

Music has profoundly influenced our society since the beginning of time. The rhythm of song is world-renowned and is meant for everyone to enjoy. Throughout the centuries of music, it began evolving. Music is now popularized and music composers are now idolized.

Everyone has their favorite genre of music and musician. From being a total punk head to being deep into hip-hop, anyone can choose what they love to have in their playlist. With all the freedom that comes with music, there are always different opinions on the many genres.

There are plenty of opinions about one of the most popular genres: country music.

Since early country music originated in the 1920s, it has taken the world by storm. And yes, I know what some people may be thinking, yuck. That hillbilly music? When listeners say they hate country music, it’s usually because of the continuous tractor tunes and sappy love songs.

When some people think of country music, they envision a cowboy standing beside his big green tractor, strumming his guitar, while singing about his latest heartbreak. Those people avoid K-FROG like the plague, not wanting to hear the tunes of Chris Young or Blake Shelton in their ears. I‘m usually that way as well, yet with the comments I’ve heard on country music, it got me thinking. Why do country lovers, enjoy country music?

“Most of the songs are just upbeat and happy. And they just make me happy, and they’re just good. Some of it is religious, and some of it’s not. It just makes me happy listening to it,” said Mackenzie R., a seventh-grade coyote.

Music always seems to have a particular effect on people, it sparks emotions in those who genuinely love the melodies that are filling their ears. I will admit, country does most of the time, have a happy, upbeat tone. It makes the atmosphere feel lighter and in a way, happier.

I believe that society nowadays, especially young people, always look to others for an opinion. Some seek to follow others opinions and the rest who don’t, form their own. But with my recent outlook on the genre, maybe those who consider supporting the “trend” to hate country music, should do their own research.

“I feel like most people don’t like (country music) because they don’t listen to that type of music, they don’t understand it. They don’t really understand what they are trying to say in there,” said Selma C, a 7th grade coyote.

I researched country music that “everyone should listen to,” with headphones in my ears the harmonies filled my ears. Blake Shelton’s latest song “I Lived It” was on. It sparked something, it was actually good! It surprised me that it was a great song, I am guilty of falling into the hatred of country music. Yet, I haven’t listened to it in forever.

Music always has a deeper meaning than what fills the ears, many should consider looking into country music more. It actually might be useful for those who listened to it.
