The sound of trumpets blaring and flutes whistling fills the air. The rhythm the of drums matches the beat. When the music stops, applause from the audience ring through the auditorium. The Day Creek Intermediate band delivered a very successful fall concert.

The concert opened with sixth graders who start off kind of anxious. “My legs felt a bit like jelly and I was a little nervous,” said sixth grader Trevor L. Since this was their first major concert, it’s predictable that they would be frightened. But by second song, one could have no idea that they were scared. They played with such confidence, you would have thought they’ve been doing this for years!

Seventh grade was able to match the same enthusiasm that sixth grade had. Nonetheless, a few students were still a little nervous. “I was kind of nervous at first. I kind of squeaked on my first notes,” Rebecca H. said with a laugh. They quickly grew with confidence after the first song as well. “I felt kind of nervous in the beginning and then it all sort of happened,” said Prestyn T. The rush of the show coming together quickly shook the students out of any fear they may have felt.

To us, eighth grade killed it out on the stage. But maybe there was more than what meets the eye. According to Alexander S., “Performing in front of adults is much different from practicing in class, you feel like you can’t mess up.” He sure fooled us!

Overall, the Day Creek Intermediate band put on an awesome show Wednesday night and we couldn’t get enough. We can’t wait for their next performance!
