Flying cars may be the future.

Carly F., Writer

We are all curious about the future, wondering, what it’s going to be like? What kinds of things will be created? How will life change? Well, a lot is certain to be difference. Not just in your life, but also in the world around you. In a decade, someone could invent a cure for cancer!  All cars might drive themselves. We may even establish a colony on the moon. The future is like the weather: even scientists can’t predict it. That’s the crazy thing about life. It can have unexpected events.

Ever Since The Jetsons’ flying car, people have been trying to create the next big thing. The question is still running in the heads of inventors: “Where is my flying car?”Another question should come first: “Would it be safe?” Would we really be comfortable flying thousands of feet in the air?  Would people with a fear of heights be okay with flying to work or school?  Would routes go over homes, schools, and churches?  Imagine what a car wreck would do!

Although there are some people who would never travel in a flying car, others would in a heartbeat. Terrafugia is one of the many companies working on this type of transportation. The car is computer controlled with a vertical take-off. The technical operations range: 500 miles. The cruise speed is 200 mph. The Terrafugia will fit in a single car garage or standard parking space.

Another similar company is AeroMobile. The car that they are creating can be driven on the streets, and also runs on gasoline. It seems to be a very convenient way to travel. Don’t want to run into traffic, simply head up in the air! According to http://www.aeromobil.com/, The AeroMobile car is almost 20 feet long and can go 99 mph on the road. In the air, it travels at least 124 miles per hour. It can fly 435 miles before running out of gas. It has steel framework and is powered by a Rotax 912, a four-cylinder aircraft engine.

There is a lot of controversy about a flying car’s safety. How Stuff Works has asked, “What if you run out of gas? It can’t be easy to pull over in mid air.”

You never know what will happen down the road.  It’s all up in the air! Who knows! We all may be flying cars in the future and normal cars will be a thing of the past.
