A policeman fatally shot 13-year-old Tyre King, a black robbery suspect in Ohio, after he pulled a BB gun out of his waistband. According to the police, the eighth grader had a BB gun that looked practically identical to the type of handgun that Columbus police carry. King died at a hospital after an officer shot him several times on Wednesday evening. The officer who shot the boy, Officer Bryan Mason, will be placed on a leave for at least a week.

“This is the last thing that a police officer wants to do in their career. Unfortunately … it becomes necessary at times to defend themselves,” police chief Kim Jacobs told reporters at a news conference in Columbus, according to CNN.com
