Olympics: Almaz Ayana Breaks 10,000m World Record
August 13, 2016
In a stunning women’s 10,000m championship, Almaz Ayana of Ethiopia shatters the world record by running the entire race in only 29:17:46. In only her second track 10k ever, the 24 year old breaks the old world record by more than 14 seconds made by China’s Wang Junxia in 1993. Even Almaz Amaya herself was shocked.
Almaz Amaya said, “When I heard the time afterwards I couldn’t believe it. It’s so much faster than you could ever imagine someone would run,” as said on www.independent.co.uk.
