On Thursday, August 28, Day Creek Intermediate held its first back-to-school dance of the year, a pretty big milestone event for the 6th grade class. For many of these students, it was their very first dance experience ever.
“I am excited because I’ve never done this before,” Cali H. said. “I am excited to see all my friends and have [new] experiences.”
This was the first opportunity for 6th graders to come together in a new, exciting setting outside the classroom. RSVPs moved quickly as students prepared for an afternoon of sweets, music, and memories.
When asked what she was most looking forward to, 6th grader Olivia L said, “Eating food and hanging out with friends and the music.”
When the event finally arrived, the MPR was alive with energy. Students jumped, sang, and shouted to the beat of popular songs. Balloons popped in the crowd, and laughter filled the air.
“I remember jumping, dancing, and singing my favorite songs with all my friends,” said Chandler B.
For some, the highlight was the dance floor itself. A dance floor became a place for bold moves and cheers.
“Everyone made a big mosh pit and a dance circle, and everyone was doing tricks,” said Nastasia S.
While the event was enjoyable for many, some were looking for a little bit more. “I felt like there weren’t that many activities and I only really liked the food,” Nastasia said.
However, the majority of students walked away with smiles and stories to tell. “I would go next year because I played with my friends at the dance, and it was really fun,” said Joshua S.
Whether it was the food, the music, or just being with friends, one thing was clear: for Day Creek’s 6th graders, this first dance was an afternoon to remember.
