Everyone’s favorite chaos queen is back. Due to the heated ending of Season One, where Kitty (Anna Cathcart) reveals that she has feelings for her “friend” Yuri (Gia Kim), and Minho (Sang Heon Lee) confesses his love to Kitty, fans have anticipated Season Two. And with that, XO Kitty, (a spinoff to the movie series To All the Boys) climbed to the top of the Netflix rankings.
The Korean-produced show features a teenage girl named Catherine Song Covey, otherwise known as Kitty to her friends. She travels to South Korea, attending a school called K.I.S.S to learn more about her mother who passed away.
The first episode of Season Two, “K.I.S.S Me Again,” depicts Kitty making her return after nearly being expelled from school after staying in the boys quad with her ex-boyfriend Dae.
Soon after stepping onto KISS for the first time since the incident, she meets her new roommates: Stella, a perky church girl from Pepperpike, Ohio; Juliana, Yuri’s girlfriend; and Yuri, her classmate, who was a little more than a friend. Bothered by this rooming arrangement, Kitty requests to move dorms, but she quickly changes her mind after a deep conversation with Yuri about their friendship and trust.
The director, Jenny Han, perfectly weaves an attention-grabbing plot, portraying the relationships between the characters similarly to how middle school students interact on a real campus. Is it relatable? Absolutely.
Episode 2 “Never Been Kissed” depicts Kitty’s search for a soulmate after she gets an invite to a teen club from her friend Praveena. However, her night at the club flames out after Praveena tells Kitty that she is focusing on Yuri.
Feeling terrible about ruining the evening with Praveena, Kitty makes a desperate attempt to rekindle their bond. The plot thickens as she invites Praveena on a daring heist to the Archives Building to uncover her opaque past.
They hit the bullseye and find the hidden capsule. Their relationship deepens, leading to their first official date.
Apart from the pending romance, Kitty explores her mother’s history with Yuri, and they locate a strange DVD that reveals the hope of reuniting as a family. In a moment of euphoria, Yuri leans in for a kiss. Even in their efforts to keep the moment a secret, the betrayal destroys each of their prior relationships.
The last few episodes of Season Two feature a multitude of sentiment, leading the viewer on a rollercoaster of emotions. There was plenty to unpack, and the viewer may be left wanting more, as this series did not disappoint.
Although our Chaos Queen will not return until late 2026, we yearn to know how Kitty will tackle her upcoming senior year.
