Wondering what it would be like jumping off of a flying bus as Ariana Grande onto a magical island, then two-hundred-pumping Peter Griffin while he’s drinking a chug jug? Or recreating memes with Godzilla? Maybe cranking 90s as Naruto and using the Kamehameha to blast Travis Scott?
Well you’re in luck, because Fortnite makes all of these things possible!
Recently, more collabs and items have been added to the Fortnite landscape including Family Guy; Jujutsu Kaizen; John Wick; real-life artists like Ice Spice, Eminem, or Marshmello; as even new pairs of shoes. It’s like dumping your favorite brands and creators into a blender.
With an estimated 650 million players, Epic Games also decided to release Fortnite Kicks. The 1000 v-bucks (Their digital currency) or $10 price may not seem like much at first. But it costs as much with less to offer when you compare it to the Battle Pass or costume bundles. The Kicks are hardly visible on the character model and when you contrast it to the Battle Pass which offers 100 rewards such as 1,500 Vbucks and 85 cosmetics, it seems unreasonable to buy.
Players have little reason to buy Fortnite’s shoes because they rarely appear on the character model and add no benefit to the gameplay. The Kicks offers nothing to the player experience unlike other cosmetics including skins that can help to hide or disguise the model, back blings that can hold interactive pets, or emotes that can express a thought (for example: a player wanting a team up).
So far, other than buying Kicks, the only way to get them was to buy last season’s Battle Pass and complete the quests for a bonus character. This is unbelievable! Fortnite is scrounging for scraps by flooding the game with cosmetics to fill their wallets.
Dedicated Fortnite fans are disappointed by these prices and are hoping for a decrease, saying they won’t buy them until the cost to purchase it is cut to the 200-400 V-bucks range. Still, some fans are buying the Fortnite Kicks, making it unlikely that the item will be removed from the shop.
The Howl agrees, hoping Fortnite will cut their prices to reflect teen popular opinion, as the item should reflect its true value to the teen consumer. For ten bucks, you may be better off saving up that money for a pair of real shoes.
