If asked about the most popular sport in the world, some people may point toward the NFL. But it’s really soccer, and it’s not even close. The highly competitive sport consists of eleven players: a goalkeeper, defenders, midfielders, and forwards. It is a beloved sport here at Day Creek.
“I feel like soccer is a very fun and competitive sport, if you get to know the sport, you can succeed in it, ” said 7th grader Madison C.
Coyotes are ecstatic about the start of intermural soccer on campus now that tryouts have begun.
“I felt like tryouts were very fun because a lot of people were interested in soccer and I was trying to prove my skills to make the team, ” said 7th grader Tyler McBane.
Along with intramural soccer, coaches held tryouts to develop a boys’ and girls’ teams. In hopes of making the cut, Coyotes had to demonstrate their teamwork and skillset while moving, passing and shooting the ball..
“Teamwork is very important because that is how a team is made,” says 7th grader Daniel H.
Day Creek has plenty of talented athletes, yet only fifteen could join each team.
“I thought that maybe we were looking at eight solid players and then just making a team up from there and what I found is that the opposite is true. I’m running into about twenty-two amazing athletes,” says Mr. Herndandez.
Only the best of our best could join to face off against teams from Summit, Heritage, and Etiwanda Intermediate.
With such a high number of skilled players, coaches and students alike hope for success. Let the games begin!
