Early on Friday morning, local groundhog Phil woke up and did not spot his shadow. Many people including members of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club traveled to Phil’s official home, Gobbler’s Knob.
Over the past 10 years or so, Phil has proven to be 40% accurate, which doesn’t speak highly for his prediction skills. If he’s correct in avoiding his shadow, we will have early Spring.
Other states have their own groundhog including Ohio, North Carolina, New York, Georgia, Michigan, Maryland, Tennessee, Illinois, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
Instead of having a groundhog, California has Mojave Maxine, a desert tortoise. Oftentimes, Mojave Maxine doesn’t even come out on Groundhog Day.
But according to Punxsutawney Phil, we can put away our hefty umbrellas and enjoy the springtime!
