Mrs. Deguzman is back! Although she taught online at Day Creek during Covid, she initially taught fifth grade at Golden Elementary.
“This will be my third full year. I was teaching during virtual learning at Day Creek for a couple of months,” said Deguzman.
Deguzman is excited for her return and anticipates a great year. She loves Day Creek and is excited that she will actually be teaching one on one with her students.
“I prefer face to face learning in the classroom [over virtual learning],” said Deguzman.
Besides being a teacher, Deguzman has additional interests off campus.
“I do love improv, and that’s my elective. I graduated from the Second City in Hollywood. I also like to hike. I got the chance to hike with a group of friends to the top of Mount Whitney,” said Mrs. Deguzman.
Deguzman cares about her kids as much as she enjoys her teaching job. She loves spending time with her two boys who also attend Day Creek.
“[I like] spending time with my family. We have board game night, we like to play Clue, Monopoly, What’s the Meme, [Game of] Life and cards.”
Though Deguzman admits that as much as being a teacher is enjoyable, she also notes the challenge that comes with the job.
“[It is hard] figuring out where everything is. Having to ask a lot of questions. Being the new teacher, there are so many resources and new things, so picking which ones I want to use and trying different things [is difficult].”
Deguzman is energetic and lively in class. She enjoys teaching and works to demonstrate her personality through her lessons.
“She talks very energetically, not like a robot,” said Kayli, one of Deguzman’s students.
Mrs. Deguzman is focused on doing a great job being a new teacher on campus. She plans on teaching the class and not letting any students get off task.
“She does projects with us; and doesn’t let her students just talk the entire way through. She always grabs our attention if she feels like we start to slip,” said Kayli.
Deguzman is following her dream. She had always wanted to be a teacher, and plans to keep teaching as long as she can.
“I [have always wanted] to be a teacher. I love teaching. It’s a passion of mine.”
Deguzman is excited to be the new teacher on campus. With a new principal, 6th graders and other staff, the energy on campus is everywhere, which adds to the excitement for a brand new school year.
