California Public Health Officials have confirmed that the bacteria level in the water of Santa Monica Pier has escalated so much that it could cause illnesses. Not only one, but four beaches in Southern California have increased bacteria levels such as Mothers Beach, Inner Cabrillo Beach, Topanga Canyon Beach, and Santa Monica Pier. What kind of symptoms could this filthy water give us? Can this be deadly to a person? According to a surfer, who described how he felt after surfing, he had pain in his eyes and throat after getting out of the water. However, another surfer said that even though the bacteria level rose, he would still continue surfing in the water as long as the waves were good. It might not sound too deadly but it can possibly get someone sick. Although the exact cause of why the bacteria rose is unknown, the possible reasons are trash on the beach, ocean debris/seaweed, and an increased number of birds or more specifically, bird droppings. With the labor day weekend approaching and the record-breaking heat wave, would you miss this beautiful beach day or risk the consequences?
