Trump proposed a compromise that fulfilled the needs of both the Democrats and the Republicans.

President Trump proposed that he would offer a path to citizenship for 1.8 million undocumented immigrants, dubbed “dreamers,” in exchange for $25 billion for the US/Mexico border wall, as well as some strict immigration reforms. This will not only include immigrants protected by DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), but will also include other immigrants who meet DACA’s criteria but have not signed up.

A white house official told reporters, “This is legislation that really represents a bipartisan consensus point. It is extremely generous in terms of the DACA piece and then fulfills all four of the President’s priorities. This bill is right down the center in terms of public opinion.
